3DLearn--Redefining education; where it takes place, how it is viewed, how it is achieved. The fundamental thing students want to do is express their voice and their spirit, and to reshape reality to make meaning. They want to create! Students have accomplished this goal to date via our physical world, in physical settings; in bricks and mortar classrooms and in campus settings. Students' minds however, are not confined to physical locations. Students are capable of imagining things and manifesting them into new forms of reality. Whatever they imagine and visualize, they can make appear in the realms of 3D virtual reality! What if we had a brand new educational learning paradigm based on what drives humanity: a need to express ourselves creatively? What if we saw vibrant 3D virtual worlds springing from the minds of children and being expressed as the castle of King Arthur, the depths of the ocean or the farthest reaches of the universe? All created and built by children? What then? Design a new educational framework based on this success. That's what. And that's exactly what 3DLearn has been up to for the last seven years
3DLearn teaches kids that we can make our world any way we want. Students are fundamentally thinking beings and they are searching for new ways to express their voice. The evolution of the Internet is evidence of this. Just look at popularity of Myspace, online role playing games such as World or Warcraft, Everquest and Second Life. These environments give users a way to express themselves without physical limitations. It's a way to express the innate creativity that drives humanity. Creativity is tapping on the shoulder of what can be. It says “Hello, are you there? I know you are! Come out.” Combine the capability of the Internet with the “what if”, the “wonder” of today's emerging 3D technologies and what do you have? The explosive potential to reawaken the creative thought processes sleeping within students.
3DLearn pushes the limits and goes beyond just offeringa cool 3D classroom and campus setting and takes a giant leap towards integrating 3D virtual world development and avatar characterizations as part of the learning process. Students CHANGE and CREATE the environment and this makes all the difference.
Fire up the Avatars!.
3DLearn allows students to explore different facets of their personalities using avatars in a safe educational environment. We show students how their own personality traits and behavior effects others' perceptions of identity. This gives students a chance to see that how you "act" within the 3D world can impact how others view you. 3DLearn unitizes avatars to help students re-enact key course topics across all content areas. Students conduct 3D living history tours, role play historical events and participate in historical theater and plays.
When you play a role different from your every day viewpoint, new insight is developed by stepping into another's shoes. Avatars allow
personal expression of an individual's identity and better yet, it allows student to 'think" as if they are engineers, urban planners, journalists, lawyers, and other innovative professionals. This gives students the tools they need to survive in a changing world .Writing a story about a purple unicorn? Create the unicorn and ride it through the forest and better yet, have your classmates get on for the ride!
3DLearn teaches students to be innovators. Schools are slow to adopt new innovations and make the organizational and instructional changes necessary to make good use of new learning technologies. 3DLearn is constantly evolving and changing to adapt to new technologyand to improve its educational program for the benefit of students.
But let's get real. This is a tough educational model to implement and it's full of challenges. Trying to keep up with ever increasing gaming technology, the hugely funded video gaming industry and techie teens keeps 3DLearn on its virtual toes. One way it leverages resources is to draw on the huge pool of student and parent talent. Getting kids to help innovate, test out and create VR worlds and better still, to have moms and dads lend their skills in blogging, design and good old fashioned parental involement...is a great formula to continue to evolve. Evolution as a thinking school is the name of the game in our eyes. If you want to read more on the 3DLearn Creativity Theory download our white paper or better still, come in and see us in action!2
